Description
Between the art of the insane and outsider art. The Sainte-Anne Collection, 2017
Museum of Art and History of Sainte-Anne Hospital, in co-publication with Somogy
Beyond the enthusiasm of the artistic and psychiatric world for “art of the insane”, then for “outsider art”, the Sainte-Anne Collection has always managed to retain its singularity, constituting a support for reflection on the identity of the man who engages in a creative process, whether he is ill or not.
This book presents the works, some quite old and rare, that form the basis of this collection. They are remarkable for the diversity of their styles and intentions, and among them, some allowed the artist Jean Dubuffet and the physician Robert Volmat, in the years 1949-1950, to compare their experiences of art and madness through the unprecedented presentation of works by artists they shared.
