The Museum of Art and History of Sainte-Anne Hospital is pleased to announce its new exhibition, “Masterpieces: At the Heart of the Sainte-Anne Collection,” which highlights emblematic works by patient-artists.

The exhibition is structured into six thematic sections:

  • Asylum and refuge stories
  • Dreams of landscapes and adventure
  • Imaginary worlds
  • Raw and beautiful
  • The intimate and the living
  • Symbolism

It offers an opportunity to discover works by now widely recognized artists such as Aloïse Corbaz, Unica Zürn, Guillaume Pujolle, Maurice Blin, and Caroline Macdonald, as well as works by anonymous artists from Poland, India, and Japan.

The exhibition aims in particular to contribute to the destigmatization of artistic production by patient-artists, showing that it fully belongs within the history of art and creation.

The MAHHSA (Museum of Art and History of Sainte-Anne Hospital) preserves a large collection of works created by patient-artists. Dating from the 19th century to the present day, these works come from France as well as from psychiatric hospitals around the world (including Brazil, India, and Japan). MAHHSA is the first hospital museum dedicated to art to have been awarded the status of Musée de France in 2016.
