Description
This second volume devoted to Jeannot’s Floor aims to explore the resonances between this unique work and forty creations by major artists, most of whom were active in the second half of the 20th century, such as Jean Dubuffet, Pablo Picasso, Brassaï, and Niki de Saint Phalle. A masterpiece born outside academic conventions, Jean Crampilh-Broucaret’s engraved floor finds its place among these creations through formal and technical analogies. Taking the form of four themes, these associations are based on the prominent place given to writing, both legible and invisible, the transformation of the medium into an expressive language, and the memory of places—from houses, nest houses, and mother houses to destroyed houses. This book is an invitation to rethink the boundaries between artistic expressions and to celebrate the richness that this body of work reveals when viewed through a new prism.
