Art Therapy: Principles, Methods, and Practical Tools, 2017 (2nd edition)

Elsevier Masson Editions
Art therapy has been gaining popularity for the past thirty years, particularly in healthcare institutions. Workshops using artistic mediation are multiplying in various fields, particularly psychiatry, education, and social work. At the same time, patient demand for differentiated care approaches is increasing considerably in many countries.
Art therapy encompasses a variety of practices and conceptualizations, some of which are empirical, and this diversity makes it difficult to define and practice, as well as to train art therapists. This is why this book clearly addresses art-based psychotherapies as a specific tool for assistance and care that must be defined, referenced, and compared to other psychotherapies.
This second edition provides all the necessary information for understanding and practicing art therapy. It first outlines its historical, conceptual, and theoretical foundations, before presenting the different types of artistic mediation in use (visual arts, modeling, writing, music, theater, and dance). The second part of the book, written with the participation of specialists in each artistic practice, presents new and emblematic clinical cases. To ensure a consistent and professional approach to art therapy, the third part is devoted to two essential chapters: indications and evaluations.
